The instantaneousness alarm is used to notify when the unit has deviated from normal operation without any data smoothing or averaging. The average alarm, which is generally used for compliance monitoring, using a rolling average to smooth out the extreme changes seen in bag filter operations to provide a more consistent value.
The Modbus address (NODE Address) for the sensor is used to differentiate each sensor from each other. This is required so that the controller or the PLC can identify which sensor it is talking to and belongs to which process. Each sensor must have a unique address on the network. The address is set by means of the DIP switch (SW100) located in the sensor assembly itself. Only switch positions 1 to 6 are used giving valid address settings from 1 to 64 (Note that valid Modbus addresses are 1 - 32). The address switch uses binary coding to calculate the required address. For example, to set address number 5: Set switch 1 (binary 1) ON and switch 3 (binary 4) ON (4 + 1 = 5).

Relays can be either setup using the relays that are provide on the controller (Multi-Controller has 4 and Single-Controller has 2) or by using the dust reading that can be output to your own system (using 4-20 mA analog outputs from the controller or Modbus TCP and/or Ethernet/IP Ethernet communications) and the emission alarms set within that system (DCS or PLC).

B3 Systems provides a service to set-up filter alarm levels based on current EPA and accepted guidance. We require a minimum of 3 - 7 days of 1-second unfiltered/averaged data from the dust monitor. This data is reviewed and evaluated based on the type of filter, the method of cleaning, process operations and variations for the correct rolling average time period (0 - 15 seconds), alarm set-point and alarm delay, if applicable.
